Hey there, it’s time for me to share my personal favorite restaurant review with you all! This is a place that I have visited at least twice, and I am confident that my mom will love it because she’s a picky eater.
Our favorite Roti shop is not located in a tourist attraction. It may be a bit difficult for tourists to travel to, but we would like to share for anyone who wants to try this famous Roti. It’s very delicious. The restaurant’s name is Chindamani Indian Restaurant and it’s open 24 hours. Our favorite dish there is the Butter Prata, crispy and buttery, goes very well with curry. Location: 108 Hougang Ave 1, #01-1263, Singapore 530108 Google Map: https://bit.ly/3z19AcX
Soup Restaurant has multiple branches, we went to the Jewel branch. You can check all branches here. https://www.souprestaurant.com.sg/contact The delicious dish in this restaurant is boiled chicken served with crispy lettuce, garlic-ginger oil. It is a simple-looking but very tasty, but without any chicken rice or spicy chicken rice sauce. The steamed fish with soy sauce is also delicious. The fish meat is soft and melts in your mouth.
The famous streamed rice cake shop is located in the food center near to Bedok train station, it’s not in a tourist destination. The queue is usually very long, and it opens from 6:30 am until 2:00 pm, but usually sells out quickly. it comes with a sauce made from radish and chili. Location: https://bit.ly/3lB4dhB
Our favorite Chinese restaurant. It’s open 24 hours and located in China Town. Our go-to dish is sweet and sour pork, which we order every time. We also love the grilled fragrant spices. I highly recommend trying it.

This is a food center in East Coast, where we like to go for a workout in the evening. I took my mother for a walk and we stopped to eat some local food. This type of food is easy to find all over the island. If I were to recommend a place for tourists to go, it would be the Newton station on the red line, which has a seafood food center with great flavors. Here are some dishes I would recommend:
- BBQ Stingray, grilled and served with spicy sauce, which Thais will surely enjoy.
- Pork and chicken satay, which is different from Thai-style satay in that the meat is more juicy and not flattened like in Thailand. The dipping sauce is similar to peanut sauce.
- Otah, a grilled spicy fish cake.

“Ponggol Nasi Lemak” This one is very popular and has a long queue. There are many branches, you can try searching the name on Google. It is rice cooked with coconut milk, served with various toppings that we can choose. Personally, I like the fried chicken wings, cabbage curry, and stir-fried eggplant.
This is a very famous Hainanese chicken rice restaurant called Tian Tian, located in the Maxwell Food Centre in Chinatown. The queue is very long and there are only tourists. My mother likes to eat Hainanese chicken rice very much and she says it’s delicious. However, it would be better if there was soup. As for the fresh popiah and Rojak, they were bought from the same food center. Rojak is like a fruit salad with shrimp paste, chili, fried tofu, grilled squid, and blanched bean sprouts. It’s unusual but delicious.
This is our go-to Thai restaurant, serving authentic Thai cuisine. We brought my mother here because she was craving Thai food and we’ve been here multiple times. The restaurant is called Dee Tongue Thai, but they are actually moving to a new location in the Aperia Mall. I wanted to mention this restaurant in case any Thais in Singapore are looking for an authentic Thai restaurant. I highly recommend this place.

Our local food center is where my mom and I go when she wants something simple to eat. There are many food options to choose from, but everything looks too unfamiliar. My mom chose to eat chicken rice (again). Even if it’s a restaurant without a famous name, they still make it delicious. The queue at this restaurant is always long and filled with locals. The food center is located at Bedok MRT Station, Green Line.
This is also a nameless restaurant, a made-to-order food stall in the neighborhood food center. I recommend to try the Curry Fish Head (picture #5). Another dish we love is Sambal Potato Leaves, which is stir-fried spicy sauce with sweet potato leaves. It’s really delicious.
Li Xin Fishball Noodles is a must-visit place if you love soft and bouncy fishballs. We have written a detailed review about this place before, including tips on how to order and must-try dishes. >> https://bit.ly/3ncD6cZ
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Personally, I like the pork rib bak kut teh and the dry bak kut teh. I order these two dishes every time, no need for a detailed review because I believe this restaurant is on everyone’s list. There are many branches, so check before you go >> https://songfa.com.sg/pages/outlets
J.B Ah Meng is a very delicious Michelin-starred restaurant that many tourists may not be familiar with. It’s very popular among locals, so it’s advisable to call ahead for a reservation, otherwise you may have to wait for a table. Here are some recommended dishes:
- White Pepper Crab: This stir-fried crab with white pepper is really good. The meat is firm and fragrant with white pepper and spiciness.
- Cereal Prawn: I don’t have a photo, but this dish is called Cereal Prawn in English. It’s deep-fried prawns covered in a crispy cereal coating.
- Ice plant Salad: This is a rare vegetable that is hard to find, but this restaurant has it. The texture of the vegetable is like chewing on ice. It’s delicious and unique.

Another Hainanese chicken rice, Chatterbox at the Hilton Orchard Hotel serves a slightly more expensive version of this dish, with a set costing $27. We also ordered fried chicken wings with salted egg. Everything is delicious, the ambiance and service are both excellent.

“Tim Ho Wan” At first we agreed not to order too much because we weren’t very hungry and it was already late. But it turned out that we ordered a lot. Everything was delicious and my mom really liked the dim sum at this restaurant. As for me, I enjoyed the baked BBQ pork buns (first picture). I’m not sure what they are called in Thailand. You can see all the branches here https://www.timhowan.com/our-stores/
Hai Di Lao restaurant is one of my favorite places to go to. I’ve been there many times and have never been disappointed. This time, I brought my nephew to celebrate his birthday. We called ahead to reserve a table and the restaurant even gave us a free cake and birthday noodles that Chinese people eat on birthdays. The staff even sang him a birthday song. My nephew was so embarrassed that he wanted to crawl under the table! We ordered the ma la soup and the pickled cabbage soup. The pickled cabbage soup is sour and a bit spicy, which is refreshing. They have branches all over Singapore and you can check them out here. https://www.haidilao-inc.com/sg/serve/storeSearch
Jumbo Seafood is known for its famous dish, Chilli Crab, which features meaty crab in a delicious sauce. It must be eaten with hot fried mantou buns, which is very satisfying. We visited the East Coast branch because it’s near our house and has a seaside atmosphere with fewer people. I highly recommend all the dishes here. Our favorite dishes to order are the fried tofu with mushrooms, crab curry, and crispy fried prawns. You can find all Jumbo Seafood branches in Singapore here. https://www.jumboseafood.com.sg/en/our-outlets
328 Katong Laksa is a dish similar to rice noodles with cockles. This restaurant is very delicious and worth a try. Additionally, next to it is the ice cream shop called “Birds of Paradise”. I recommend ordering the cone which is made in-house and is very delicious.

We stopped by Ya Kun Kaya Toast for breakfast. The boiled eggs look simple, but why do they taste better than making them myself? Another dish that I really like here is the toast with butter and kaya (coconut jam). There are many branches of this restaurant, and you can check the full list of locations here. http://yakun.com/find-us/local
