As the clock strikes midnight, the loud thumping at the door continues. Suddenly, a giant bursts through, breaking down the door. Uncle Vernon tries to threaten the giant with a gun, but the giant effortlessly takes the gun and bends it into a knot. The giant then surprises Harry with a chocolate birthday cake and introduces himself as Hagrid, the “Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts.”
Hagrid is shocked to discover that the Dursleys have never informed Harry about Hogwarts. Despite Vernon’s attempts to prevent it, Hagrid insists on telling Harry the truth. He reveals to Harry that he is a wizard and presents him with an acceptance letter to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Vernon vehemently objects, declaring that he won’t allow Harry to go to Hogwarts. Hagrid sets the record straight, explaining that the Dursleys have been lying about the circumstances of Harry’s parents’ deaths. Harry learns that his parents didn’t die in a car crash, as he had been led to believe, but were actually killed by the evil wizard Voldemort.
Initially, Harry finds it hard to believe that he could be a wizard, but he begins to realize that the incident with the boa constrictor at the zoo was an example of his own magical abilities. Despite Uncle Vernon’s protests, Hagrid takes Harry away from the shack, starting a new chapter in Harry’s life.
